WILLOW + SPARROW

Willow + Sparrow is a engineering consultancy based in Northern New South Wales. We are a small team of engineers, and project managers having more than 70 years’ combined engineering experience. Our team have worked in both public and private sectors and have experience in the planning, asset management, design, project management and construction. Our staff specialise in hydraulic design including storm water, potable water, recycled water and sewerage infrastructure and have extensive experience in all areas of civil engineering.

OUR TEAM

Michael Chamberlain

Managing DIRECTOR / Certified CIvil engineer

Michael started Willow + Sparrow in 2016 and is the Managing Director. His skills span planning, asset management, design, construction, and contract management. Michael is a specialist hydraulic engineer. He has approximately 20 years’ experience as a civil engineer and has been part of numerous multi-million dollar infrastructure projects.

Michael is a Certified Civil Engineer (RPEng), a Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ) and is on the National Engineering register (NER).

Russell Yelseth

Technical DIRECTOR / Senior civil engineer

Russell joined the team in 2019 as the Technical Director of the company. Russell has a wealth of technical knowledge associated with water and wastewater operations, engineering design and more specifically pumping systems. He has over 23 years experience in civil engineering with skills attuned to project management, planning, feasibility and options studies, design, contract administration, construction, and operations and maintenance. Russell also has significant experience in structural concrete projects.

Russell previously worked for Aurecon South Africa as an Engineering Consultant and more recently was the Operational Engineer for Ballina Shire Council prior to joining Willow and Sparrow in 2019.

Ian Denovaro

Senior Water/Wastewater Engineer

Ian joined the team in 2021 bringing his experience all the way from Brazil and has over 10 years experience in both public and private sectors. He has experience in operating the sewer treatment facilities, project management of major construction works and been the lead in a design role. Since arriving in Australia, Ian has contributed to the design of large-scale ‘tier 1’ projects, like the Cross River Rail train stations and The One, a complex with three high-rise buildings, both in the heart of Brisbane. His skills set adds to Willow + Sparrow’s specialized knowledge on water and wastewater systems.

Alan Newnham

Senior civil/Structural engineer

Allan has approximately 10 years’ experience in civil engineering predominantly in Structural and Coastal Engineering. He is a professional engineer with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and joined the team in January 2023. Allan provides the team with structural engineering and design expertise.

Laciar Wynne

Senior civil engineer

Laciar joined Willow + Sparrow in 2023 as a senior civil engineer. He has 20 years engineering experience and extensive technical knowledge in the civil infrastrusture. He is also a senior designer and operator of 12D, CAD, EPANET and Civil 3D.

He has recently migrated from South Africa where he previously worked for Aurecon South Africa.

Benjamin Pridmore

Project Manager

Ben joined the team in 2024 as a Project Manager and Civil Designer. Ben brings a wealth knowledge and experience from the residential building and commercial construction space. Ben has almost 20 years’ experience and has managed multimillion dollar projects. He has a certified builders license and a diploma of project management. His breadth of experience and involvement in construction provides a welcomed dynamic to the team.

Ross Smithard

Design Drafter

Ross is our civil design officer and provides support to us in our technical design delivery. Ross is a Carpenter. He assist us with NATA accredited hydrostatic testing services division within the company.
